Netball

The netball team started 4 years ago as a drunken rant from a few girls who reminisced about playing in school all those years ago, not all of us had had a good experience of sport at school, so we decided to make it as fun as possible. Sharky a local with our sponsor’s; the plough, took the first step of hiring us a court. Finding free courts was difficult and many a time we played on junior basketball courts, (including ones we had to jump walls to get at!!)

This year we got promoted to div 8, which is the most ace, most fantastical thing ever. And double bubble with that is that we have another team to enter this year and they’re bloody ready!!

So look out for div 8 and div 10 for this season – coming at ya, like a Salamander!!!! We don’t have a coach or a manager, as we have been self-sufficient so far, we’re training our own girls up for umpiring, coaching and anything else we need….

Some boys have thought they were big enough to handle us – all mouth and no trousers! Stuff on the whole is sorted as a group, there is no hierarch.

Avon League – We have a team affiliated (at considerable cost) to Avon League, this is our forth year. Our first year wasn’t too great as although we did win a few games we encountered MANY learning curves. The second year was much better, as we crept with stealth manoeuvres into div 9. Then this year we sprang into div 8 – How cool is that?! Getting the new team up and ready has been well exciting too, the plough better be ready on Saturdays!

Friendlies – We try and arrange regular friendlies to facilitate training,. And also because its great to go out and have fun with other teams at a similar level.

Opportunities – Currently we have 2 qualified umpires at beginner’s level and one at C that we paid to put through their courses. We gladly support any of our players interested in gaining this qualification.

Also there are regular coaching training sessions that we try and put as many that play as possible through, and all being well should be getting some girls through the accredited coaching course this season.

Training - Thursday nights at St Paul’s academy 6.30pm Sharp! (To allow for stretching and berd like weekly catch up).

We do always welcome new players whatever their level, but from august to march new players should be aware that existing players are focusing on league games and therefore, it is more difficult to get a proper training session. The best time to join is February on in to the summer.
